5 ways to set S.M.A.R.T Goals, not Resolutions.

Let's face it, setting S.M.A.R.T Goals is far more accomplishable than resolutions.

New Year, new me? How often have we set New Year resolutions, only to forget about them in February? Having dreams and goals is healthy. Pursuing unrealistic resolutions is not. Every time we fail to achieve one of our unrealistic resolutions, this brings down our morale and makes us feel like a failure. Trust me, I have been there. Resolutions like "saving $10,00", "Losing 10 pounds," or "buying a home" could leave you feeling depressed if you didn't achieve them. Here are some ways to get out of that vicious cycle and start setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bond (S.MA.R.T) goals.

1. Be Specific

What are you trying to achieve? What steps can be taken to achieve it? The more specific you could be, the better you will fulfill your objectives. Think of all of the details as minimum as they might seem.

2. Measure progress

How would you quantify your progress? Are you able to break it down into quantifiable amounts? For example, if your goal is to save $10,000 a year, you can break that down into $27 a day.

3. Be Realistic

At this point, you would need to give yourself a reality check. Ask yourself, is this something I can realistically accomplish? Am I setting myself up for failure? Or can I achieve this without stumbling? Being realistic and aiming high could seem contradictory, but it's ok to dream big if you have a plan.

4. Make it Relevant

How is this goal you are setting relevant to the direction you want your life to go right now? We often associate our goals with the person we used to be. Think of something important to you a year ago and how having your goals tied to that could be misleading for the person you are now.

5. Give Yourself a Deadline

What is your time horizon? When does it make sense for this goal to be completed? Remember, a goal without a deadline is just a dream. Be sure to give yourself enough time to achieve your goal.

Knowing how to set goals using the SMART framework can help you succeed in setting and attaining goals, no matter how large or small. Sending abundance your way in 2022!
